Domain Name Registered For $20 Sells for $2.6 Million

Chris Clark took a stab at registering a few domain names 14 years ago. One domain name he decided to purchase was “Pizza.com”, for $20. He thought it may be worth some money down the road, but he had no idea how much wealth it would bring him.

Clark held onto the name and placed advertisements on the website attempting to monetize it. He did well with that but he wanted to go even further. He heard about the $3 million sale of the name “Vodka.com” and wanted to try his luck.

Clark put Pizza.com on auction. Bidding began at $100, and a week later bidding topped $2 million. The final bid was $2.6 million, making Chris a happy man.

Clark described the auction and sale of his domain name “Pizza.com” as “just crazy.”
