Microsoft Gives Yahoo an Ultimatum

Microsoft has given Yahoo three weeks to make a decision about the $44.6 billion buyout offer. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said, if the companies fail to come to an agreement by then “We will be compelled to take our case directly to your shareholders, including the initiation of a proxy contest to elect an alternative slate of directors.”

90 Percent of Yahoo’s shareholders are also major Microsoft shareholders which should pressure Yahoo into coming up with some kind of agreement shortly. Ballmer also threatened to reduce Microsoft’s bid if Yahoo doesn’t make up its mind within the three weeks.

Yahoo has until April 26 to make a decision.
