Intel Working On Long-Distance WiFi

Intel is currently working on expanding the range of WiFi connections in rural areas. Their hard work is showing great results. According to Technology Review, Intel’s “Rural Connectivity Platform” is able to transmit WiFi signals from one antenna to another located more than 60 miles away. This is also with data transmission speeds of at least 6.5 megabits per second.

Intel basically came up with software that rewrites the way two radios communicate with one another. One of the major factors that comes into play is they eliminate the extra data sent and received that occurs when confirming transmissions. The system also includes high powered antennas which of course aid in the range of signals.

Intel is aiming to start selling this long-distance WiFi system in India later this year, for roughly $500 USD.
